ZS Genetics
ZS Genetics, Inc. (“ZSG”) is a privately-held company that is developing a technology platform for directly creating detailed images of individual DNA or RNA molecules. We believe our radically-different, patent-pending technology will have a major impact in the Expression, Sequencing and Diagnostics markets.
ZS Genetics’ patent-pending processes adapt existing, mature technologies to new applications. When used for Sequencing, we project our technology will complete whole genomes in days instead of months, for thousands of dollars instead of millions. Applied to Expression, the ZSG technology offers scientists the ability to do research that was simply not possible before; measuring the activity of hundreds to thousands of genes in a single-cell, with single-molecule sensitivity. This new ability will allow researchers to compare normal cells vs. individual cancer cells, and should open the door to entirely new categories of drugs and diagnostics.
William Glover founded ZSG in 2003 after studying DNA images derived from Rosalind Franklin’s original data that first revealed the structure of the double helix. Due to Mr. Glover’s own background with X-rays and the X-ray source of Ms. Franklin’s photos, he initially focused on X-ray technology to improve Sequencing. In March of 2004, he switched to an electron microscope approach. His team imaged a labelled DNA molecule in December 2004 – a key proof of principal.
ZS Genetics is now commercializing its Expression offering and will begin offering interested scientists the opportunity to try the technology in action. Our Sequencing application is planned for 2008.
